Deadly Russian missile strike hits Kyiv

At least 17 people were killed and more than 40 injured after Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region. 

The strikes caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, including warehouses, logistics centres, and transportation facilities.

According to Ukraine's Air Force, Russia launched 24 ballistic missiles, four Zircon cruise missiles, and 115 drones during the assault. 

While Ukrainian air defences intercepted nearly 90% of the drones, they failed to shoot down any of the ballistic or cruise missiles, highlighting the country's growing shortage of interceptor missiles for US-supplied Patriot air defence systems.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the primary targets included warehouses, civilian logistics facilities, infrastructure, and a railway station. 

Russia's Defence Ministry said the strikes targeted seven logistics centres that it claimed were being used to store dual-use goods and drone components for Ukraine's military.

Ukraine, however, said the attacks struck civilian infrastructure and businesses. Both Russia and Ukraine deny deliberately targeting civilians.
