18-month-old girl dies after alleged rape in Karachi's Qayyumabad; police lodge FIR

Police have registered a murder case over the death of an 18-month-old girl in Karachi's Qayyumabad area, with the child's father accusing a close relative of assaulting and sexually abusing her.

According to the police, the FIR was lodged under the murder charge on the complaint of the victim's father.

In his statement, the complainant said his wife informed him by phone that their daughter had died while undergoing treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

He alleged that a close relative, identified as Mannan, had taken the toddler out on the pretext of buying her something on Tuesday evening. When he returned her around 7pm, she was unconscious and her clothes were dirty.

The family rushed the child to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

The father alleged in the FIR that the suspect subjected his daughter to torture and sexual abuse, leading to her death.

The police said the post-mortem examination has been completed and the body handed over to the family. Officials added that the exact legal cause of death will be determined after the final post-mortem report, while further investigation into is underway.
