Sindh Home Ministry notifies TORs of judicial commission in Mir Raza case

KARACHI: The Sindh government has formally constituted a judicial commission to investigate the death of Mir Raza, with Justice Umar Sial appointed as its head.

The commission’s chairman has received the notification regarding its formation, issued by the Sindh Home Department. The notification also outlines the commission’s terms of reference (ToRs).

Under the notification, the commission will examine the facts surrounding Mir Raza’s death and review all circumstances related to the incident.

It will also assess whether the investigation conducted so far has been impartial and in accordance with the law.

The commission will determine whether further investigation or additional evidence is required in the case. It will also examine any alleged negligence or dereliction of duty by police officials, medico-legal officers or other government personnel.

The notification states that the commission will identify those responsible if evidence was concealed, tampered with or otherwise mishandled.

The commission has also been empowered to recommend further investigation, forensic analysis and any legal or departmental action it considers necessary.

Under its terms of reference, the commission will have the authority to summon witnesses and require the production of relevant documents.

All concerned departments, institutions and officials will be required to fully cooperate with the commission.

The commission is required to submit its report to the Sindh government within 30 days of its formation. However, the provincial government may extend the deadline if deemed necessary.

The judicial commission’s findings are expected to determine whether further investigative or legal action is required in the Mir Raza case.
