The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday granted one-week interim protective bail to Noreen Niazi, the sister of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, in a case registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

Justice Sardar Akbar Ali passed the order after hearing arguments from Niazi's counsel, who argued that his client was a permanent resident of Lahore while the case had been registered in Islamabad.

The counsel told the court that Niazi feared she could be arrested before she had an opportunity to appear before the relevant court in the federal capital. He further contended that the case was politically motivated and intended to harass the petitioner.

He requested the court to grant interim protective bail to enable her to safely approach the Islamabad court.

After hearing the arguments, the court granted Niazi protective bail for one week and directed her to appear before the relevant court before the next hearing.

The NCCIA registered the case on Monday under Sections 20 and 26-A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, as well as Sections 505 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
