Karachi police have arrested a trader and one of his alleged accomplices in connection with a plot to fake his own death in an apparent attempt to evade debts exceeding Rs550 million.
According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Zeeshan, allegedly owed more than Rs550 million to multiple people and staged his own death with the help of an associate to escape his financial liabilities.
Investigators said the burnt body recovered from the businessman's vehicle in Karachi's Surjani Town was later identified as Qurban, a resident of Muzaffargarh, and not Zeeshan Naz as initially believed.
Police said they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Qurban's death and how his body ended up inside the vehicle.
Senior police officers are continuing to interrogate the two suspects, while their formal arrests are expected to be announced later on Wednesday.
