Jibran Nasir urges media to avoid sensationalism in Mir Raza case

KARACHI: Lawyer and rights activist Jibran Nasir has urged the media to avoid sensationalising the Mir Raza case, saying the victim’s family is willing to provide all relevant information and should be approached directly for details.

Speaking about the investigation, Nasir said there was no need for the media to create a sense of mystery around the case or report developments as sensational “revelations.”

He said samples of the victim’s clothes and body had been collected during the initial post-mortem examination around 13 to 14 days ago.

Nasir further said that samples collected after the exhumation were not submitted to the laboratory over the weekend. He said the family was told that the laboratory remained closed on Saturday and Sunday due to the weekend holidays.

According to Nasir, the samples were expected to be submitted to the laboratory on Monday morning, but this did not happen initially.

He said that after the family raised the matter on Monday, the investigation officer immediately went to the laboratory and submitted the samples.

Nasir thanked the media for keeping the case in the public eye and said the Mir Raza family appreciated the media’s continued attention to the matter.

He added that the family was ready to cooperate with the police and would provide all assistance requested by investigators.

Nasir said the day’s proceedings had been completed and urged police to broaden the scope of the investigation. He reiterated that the family had confidence in the media and credited journalists with keeping the case alive.
