FIA arrests customs superintendent, two inspectors over alleged bribery

The Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad has arrested a Pakistan Customs superintendent and two inspectors on allegations of bribery and misuse of authority.
According to the FIA, a complainant approached the agency and alleged that the customs officials, acting in collusion, had harassed and threatened him.
The officials allegedly initially demanded Rs5 million from the complainant in exchange for providing unlawful relief in a pending criminal case registered by Customs. The amount was later negotiated down to Rs2.5 million.
The suspects allegedly threatened to implicate the complainant's family members and associates in the case if he failed to meet their demand. After obtaining approval from the competent authority and completing legal formalities, the FIA conducted a trap raid at a cafe in Sector I-8, Islamabad, under the supervision of a judicial magistrate.
During the raid, a customs inspector was allegedly caught red-handed while receiving the first instalment of Rs500,000 in bribe money in the presence of the judicial magistrate. Marked currency notes were recovered from his possession and his mobile phone was also seized.
The FIA said an initial forensic examination of the phone recovered voice chats that allegedly revealed a criminal conspiracy to extort money from the complainant and plans to harass his family.
FIR No. 39/2026 was registered against the suspects under Sections 161 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
The arrested inspector was produced before a court, which granted his five-day physical remand. Based on information provided by the arrested suspect, the customs superintendent and another inspector were subsequently arrested.
The FIA said it was following a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and would continue taking strict legal action without discrimination against government officials allegedly involved in bribery and misuse of authority.
