At least 14 people have been killed when a cargo-laden truck crashed into a canal after falling from the Galapur Bangla bridge in the Punjab district of Sargodha because of the fog, according to rescue sources.

The dead comprise six children and five women.

According to rescue 1122 Punjab officials, the truck was carrying mourners from Islamabad to Faisalabad when this unfortunate incident occurred.

“Because of dense fog, the highway had to be closed, and so the vehicle had to take a local route. In the vicinity of the canal bridge for the area of Tehsil Kot Momin, the vehicle went into the canal,” Rescue 1122 said, “as the vehicle lost control due to poor visibility.”

Also, the dense fog often makes the traffic on the Punjab Motorways and major roads come to a standstill during the winter season.

A short while back, various motorways, such as the M-1, M-2, M-3, M-4, and M-11, have remained shut due to thick fog, state the NHMP.

From the report, the accident occurred because the bus overtook another vehicle from behind, resulting in the truck turning towards it. It was reported that the bus overtook despite the road being quite narrow.
