The National highways and motorway police have launched a new road safety initiative titled “Challan Nahi, Helmet,” aimed at encouraging motorcyclists to wear helmets rather than charging fine against it.

According to this campaign, officers on national highways and motorways stop riders who are not wearing helmets and offer them a choice: purchase a quality helmet on the spot and avoid a fine, or face the usual penalties.

According to NHMP officials, the approach acknowledges that the cost of a good safety helmet is roughly equivalent to the amount of a standard challan, but buying one provides immediate safety and helps prevent life‑threatening injuries in the event of an accident.

Moreover, the NHMP spokespersons highlighted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce road accident fatalities and serious injuries on Pakistan’s highways, where head injuries are a leading cause of death in motorcycle crashes.

The campaign has received positive feedback from some motorists, who say the initiative not only saves them money but also raises awareness about safe riding practices.
