A three-year-old child fell into an open drain in Islamabad’s Sanbal area and passed away.
According to an official of the ICT administration, a sewer pit had been dug in the Meher Abadi area for drainage purpose but was left uncovered, due to which the tragic incident happened.
Legal action is being taken against those responsible for the negligence. The ICT administration warned that digging for sewerage without proper safety measures is illegal and costs lives.
Last year, in Karachi alone, the reported cases of deaths from open sewers were 24, including 5 children.
Officials have urged citizens to report any uncovered drains to prevent further tragedies
