WhatsApp is testing a new feature aimed at improving transparency around status privacy settings, according to a report by WABetaInfo. The feature has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.2.9 and is designed to make it easier for users to review who can view their status updates.
The new option will appear within the Status Privacy section and allows users to check the audience of a status after it has been posted. Until now, WhatsApp did not provide a direct way for users to confirm which privacy setting was applied once a status went live, often leading to uncertainty and the need to delete and repost updates.
According to the report, the feature can be accessed through the viewers’ menu of an active status within its 24-hour availability period. A new section titled “Audience” will display a summary of the privacy option used for that specific status.
The interface clearly labels whether the status was shared with all contacts or with a limited audience, using categories such as “My Contacts,” “My Contacts Except,” or “Only share with.” It also lists the specific contacts included or excluded from viewing the update.
