The MQM founder was hospitalised on February 1 after his health deteriorated. In a statement issued at the time, the party said doctors had examined him and recommended his admission for medical care.

Mr Hussain has been living in London in self-imposed exile since 1992 and later obtained British citizenship. From the UK, he remained politically active for many years, frequently addressing supporters in Karachi through televised and online speeches.
