Tests of missiles with nuclear capability have been launched since Wednesday at the Kura training ground in the Kamchatka Region of Russia.

According to the regional government, the drills will be held until May 10.

It is advisable for the local residents to follow strict safety regulations and avoid going to the Kura training ground and adjacent areas.

“The presence and movement of any individuals and equipment are prohibited,” the statement added.

The Kura training ground is among the primary military installations under the command of the Russian Aerospace Forces. It is situated about 500 km north of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in a swampy region near the Ozernaya River.

The training ground is mainly employed for drills in engaging targets with missiles and testing different kinds of missile weapons.

For many years, it has been used since the Soviet era to receive warheads from intercontinental ballistic missiles that were launched from other training sites such as the Plesetsk Cosmodrome and the Kapustin Yar training ground.

Drills at the Kura training ground take place periodically, mostly several times per year. They may involve scheduled tests of new missile systems and training launches by the personnel of the Strategic Missile Forces.
