Karachi Traffic Police have announced a large-scale crackdown against blacklisted vehicles across the city from 1 July, warning motorists to update their records and clear outstanding dues before enforcement begins.
Talking to Dialogue Pakistan, DSP TRACS, Malheer Khan said vehicles flagged by the police system will be stopped and clamped during a citywide campaign being conducted in collaboration with the Safe City project.
Once identified as blacklisted, vehicles may be taken into police custody and will only be released after owners settle outstanding obligations and provide the required ownership documents, he added.
According to the DSP, the operation will target several categories of vehicles. These include cars that have been sold but are still being driven under the previous owner's name because ownership records have not been transferred. Vehicles with incomplete or inaccurate registration details, including insufficient address information, will also fall under the crackdown.
Another major focus will be motorists who have failed to pay e-challans or other government dues. Officials said these vehicles have been identified as part of the blacklisted category and will face strict enforcement measures.
He urged vehicle owners to use the grace period available before 1 July to rectify their records. Motorists are advised to visit the Sindh Police traffic portal, enter their vehicle registration and CNIC details, and check whether their vehicle has been placed on the blacklist.
If discrepancies are found, owners should visit the Excise Department to complete biometric verification, transfer vehicle ownership where necessary, update address records and clear any outstanding fines or government dues.
The traffic police also highlighted the issue of vehicles operating with fake number plates. Officials confirmed that action against such vehicles will form a key part of the campaign. Any vehicle detected by the system as blacklisted will be clamped and impounded until all legal and administrative requirements have been fulfilled.
The DSP TRACS warned that failure to comply could result in significant inconvenience for motorists, urging residents to take advantage of facilitation centres and mobile service camps established by the Excise Department to update their records before the deadline.
