The Karachi Traffic Police has announced a new traffic management plan requiring motorbikes, buses and rickshaws to use designated lanes on Sharea Faisal, with fines for violations.
The initiative was unveiled by DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah, who said the system will initially be implemented on Sharea Faisal, where surveillance infrastructure is already available.
Under the plan, motorbikes, rickshaws, buses and other light transport vehicles will be restricted to the two leftmost lanes, while the remaining lanes will be reserved for faster-moving traffic such as cars and double-cabin vehicles.
A one-month awareness campaign will be launched before enforcement begins on June 1 to help commuters adjust to the new rules.
Officials said violations will be monitored through existing cameras, with e-tickets issued automatically. Fines have been set at Rs2,500 for motorbikes and rickshaws and Rs7,500 for buses.
