The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has clarified viral reports suggesting that a supposed heat burst is expected to affect some regions in Punjab, which would increase the temperatures to as high as 20 degrees Celsius in just a matter of minutes.

According to the clarification issued by the Met Office, there is no advisory or warning issued by the department regarding any such weather phenomenon.

It has strongly rejected all such claims made on social and electronic media, which say that the southern part of Punjab will experience an increase in temperature up to 5 to 10 minutes.

As per the viral message, there was an increase in temperatures between 30°C to 45°C or 50°C during nighttime, and besides, the weather would be experiencing zero humidity, respiratory disorders, plant destruction and so forth.

Moreover, the term El Niño has also been used to support their claim scientifically.

On the other hand, the PMD stated in its clarification that forecasts, outlooks and weather alerts are only made after the verification of credible data.

Also, no statement was made on the subject. The department has also said that such messages cause undue panic among people when they are receiving hot weather conditions.

Citizens have been advised to rely only on official weather updates and government-issued sources for information about changing weather conditions. The department also urged the public not to trust or spread unconfirmed claims circulating online.
