'Instead of speaking at business forums, Naqvi should visit Parliament': Bilawal on interior minister's new provinces call

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has called for a parliamentary debate on the creation of new provinces, saying the issue should be discussed by elected representatives.

Speaking to the media in London, Bilawal said every political figure had the right to express an opinion on the matter, responding to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s recent calls for changes to the country’s governance structure.

“Mohsin Naqvi sahib must be speaking his own language, and I speak my language. It is his right to express his opinion,” Bilawal said.

He said the proposal for creating new provinces should be debated in the National Assembly.

Bilawal also criticised Naqvi for what he described as limited engagement with Parliament, saying the interior minister should visit Parliament instead of discussing the issue at business forums.

“I am ready to debate this with any representative of the federal government or a federal minister,” Bilawal said.

He stressed that longstanding problems in the governance system should be openly discussed, adding that their causes and possible solutions should be debated in Parliament by elected representatives.

Naqvi’s proposal for an overhaul of the governance structure and creation of new provinces has drawn political reactions since he raised the issue at the Pakistan Economic Summit 2026 in July.
