The federal government has filed a review petition against the Supreme Court's order directing the transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan from Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail to a private hospital.

Chief Commissioner Islamabad filed the review petition through the Islamabad Advocate General.

The petition states that the Supreme Court issued an interim order on August 18 directing that Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital. It argues that the order went beyond the court's jurisdiction and should therefore be reviewed.

The Supreme Court had on Tuesday ordered Imran Khan's transfer to a private hospital and directed the formation of a medical board to examine the matter.

PTI had welcomed the Supreme Court's decision, saying it would respect the court's order and would not politicise the matter concerning Imran Khan's health.

Meanwhile, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar had indicated that the government would seek a review of the order, maintaining that Imran Khan should instead be medically examined at a government hospital.
