Singer Meesha Shafi has challenged the trial court’s decision in the defamation case filed by Ali Zafar, requesting that the order to pay damages be declared void.
According to details, Meesha Shafi has filed an appeal in the Lahore High Court against the lower court’s verdict in the defamation case initiated by Ali Zafar.
In her appeal, Meesha Shafi has raised several legal objections to the trial court’s decision.
The petition argues that the trial court failed to properly assess the facts of the case and the applicable law.
Meesha Shafi maintains that until the allegations of sexual harassment are conclusively decided on merit, they cannot be labelled as “false.”
The court has also been informed that the original sexual harassment case is still pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and therefore, issuing a ruling in the defamation case at this stage is legally premature.
Meesha Shafi has requested the Lahore High Court to set aside the lower court’s order requiring her to pay damages to Ali Zafar and to declare the trial court’s decision unlawful.
It is worth noting that the session court (trial court) had previously ruled in favour of Ali Zafar, ordering Meesha Shafi to pay substantial damages, a decision that has now been formally challenged in a higher court.
