PMD issues another heatwave alert for Sindh, warns mercury may climb to 49°C
KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh heatwave alert for Sindh, warning of extreme temperatures likely to reach up to 49°C in the coming days. The advisory states that central and upper districts—including Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur—will remain under severe heat stress from May 7 to May 11, with daytime temperatures expected to range between 47°C and 49°C.
The Met Office has urged residents, particularly children, women, and the elderly, to take precautionary measures by avoiding outdoor exposure during peak hours and maintaining adequate hydration. In its broader outlook, the PMD noted that a persistent heatwave is expected to prevail across much of the country from May 6 to 12, with most plain areas experiencing hot and dry weather conditions.
