YouTube’s Shorts feed is set to see a significant increase in artificial intelligence (AI)-generated content, including AI-based versions of creators, according to the platform’s chief executive officer Neal Mohan.

In his annual letter, Mohan said that at some point this year, creators would be able to produce Shorts tailored to their own personalities using AI-powered tools. However, he did not provide further details on what “personality-based” content would involve.

Mohan said additional information would be shared soon, including when the feature would be launched and how creators could use it.

The YouTube CEO also highlighted the rapid expansion of AI tools on the platform. A YouTube spokesperson said that later this year, creators would be able to use AI through text prompts to develop games. An experimental music-related feature is also expected to be made available to users.

Addressing concerns over misuse, Mohan said YouTube was working on systems to prevent the spread of AI-generated spam and to limit low-quality content across the platform.

He added that several new features would be introduced, including the integration of different formats such as image posts directly into users’ feeds.
