Pakistan allows entry to Afghan newborn for medical treatment on humanitarian grounds

A 10-day-old Afghan newborn has been granted special permission to enter Pakistan for medical treatment on humanitarian grounds at the Pakistan-Afghanistan Torkham border.

The infant is currently receiving treatment at an FC hospital.

According to government officials, the critically ill newborn, who belongs to Jalalabad, Afghanistan, was allowed to enter Pakistan along with his parents through the Torkham border for medical care.

Officials said the baby is undergoing treatment at the FC hospital, where necessary medical facilities are being provided.

They added that, given the newborn’s critical condition, Pakistani authorities granted special permission for entry on humanitarian grounds to ensure timely access to medical treatment.

It was for the first time since the closure of the Torkham border in October last year that any Afghan national was permitted to come to Pakistan via a land route.

Afghan nationals with valid travel documents may travel to Pakistan by air only.
