PTI founder Imran Khan told his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, that he was facing “severe injustice and torture” during detention.

Speaking alongside Imran’s personal physician Dr Faisal Sultan at a press conference in Islamabad, Uzma said her brother appeared physically well when she met him and that his blood pressure was recorded at 120/80.

Moreover, she said doctors examined his eyes and administered an injection before covering one of them with a bandage.

Uzma said Imran told her that he had been treated “very unjustly” for months and asked her to inform others about what he described as severe injustice and torture.

She also said he complained about prolonged isolation and compared his treatment with that of former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi.

Dr Faisal said he had travelled to Shifa International Hospital expecting to examine Imran but was later told the PTI founder might not arrive. He subsequently returned to Adiala Jail.

The development followed a Supreme Court order directing authorities to shift Imran to Shifa International Hospital for examination and treatment and allowing his personal physician and Dr Uzma to remain associated with his medical care.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Imran was instead taken to PIMS because of security concerns around Shifa.

He said doctors, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician, examined him and declared him medically fit before he was returned to Adiala Jail at around 5am.
