The Punjab Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution calling for the Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir for their role in promoting peace during the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Provincial Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman tabled the resolution, praising the country's political and military leadership for an effective diplomatic effort in encouraging a ceasefire between the United States and Iran during a period of heightened global tensions.

It also acknowledged the contributions of several senior figures, including Nawaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with the PM and Field Marshal, expressing appreciation for their leadership in handling complex international challenges.

According to the resolution, their “unwavering leadership and tireless efforts” helped raise Pakistan’s standing on the global stage. It credited them with navigating sensitive diplomatic channels and contributing to efforts aimed at preventing a wider regional conflict.

The resolution also recognised the role of international stakeholders, including leaders from the US and Iran, for choosing dialogue and restraint in an effort to ease tensions.

It highlighted Shehbaz Sharif’s “statesmanlike” leadership, Ishaq Dar’s effectiveness in presenting Pakistan’s position internationally, and Field Marshal Asim Munir’s “strong, professional, and courageous” military leadership, calling the overall outcome a “historic achievement.”
