PIMS tragedy: Budget details of maternal and child health unit surface

The budget details for the Mother and Child Health (MCH) Centre at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for the fiscal year 2026-27 have emerged.

According to the budget documents, Rs1.0694 billion has been allocated for the MCH Centre for FY2026-27, compared with Rs855.6 million in the previous fiscal year. The documents show that Rs11 million has been allocated for the repair and maintenance of the centre, while Rs7 million has been earmarked for machinery and equipment.

An amount of Rs4 million has been allocated for the building and structure of the Mother and Child Health Centre.

The centre’s employees have been allocated Rs356.9 million in salaries. Of this, Rs200 million has been earmarked for officers’ salaries and Rs156.5 million for other staff.

According to the documents, Rs332.7 million has been allocated for employees’ allowances, while Rs270 million has been earmarked for operating expenses.

The budget also includes Rs6 million for pensions of retired employees and Rs8.5 million for scholarships. A further Rs6 million has been allocated for store stock, plant and machinery.
